Ganesh Ji Arti

The son of Parvati and Shiva, Lord Ganesha is one of the five major gods of Hindu mythology (Smartism). The other four are Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Durga. Lord Ganesha is revered as the patron of education and wisdom, and remover of obstacles. Although Ganesha is described in many forms across Indian sub-continent, yet his symbolic elephant head provides him unique identity. Lord Ganesha has four hands, elephant’s head and a big belly. Ganesha’s head signifies the presence of Atma, the soul which is considered as the ultimate supreme reality of human existence. His human body signifies Maya, or materialistic existence of human being on planet earth.

The legend behind lord Ganesha’s head:

Shivapurana suggests the instance as follows:
Once goddess Parvati created a boy out of her body whilebathing and eventually ordered him to guard the entrance to the bathing area. The boy was determined to accomplish the task assigned to him and denied entry to Lord Shiva in the premises. Lord Shiva didn’t recognize the stranger guarding his wife, in rage he decapitated the boy and entered the premises. As a result of this; Goddess Parvati grew inconsolable in grief and demanded her son resurrected back to life. To relieve her, Lord Shiva ordered his servicemen to get the head of any living thing in the proximity. The squad came back with the head of a new-born elephant, Shiva mounted the head on the body of the boy and resurrected him back to life. This boy is worshipped as Lord Ganesha in Hindu mythology throughout the world.
